AMES, Iowa -- Latino Heritage Month at Iowa State University kicks off this Saturday night in the Great Hall, Memorial Union on campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Comedians Joey Villagomez and Vince Acevedo take the stage at 7 p.m. Immediately following, at 7:30 p.m., the Latin band Bemba Colora will play salsa, meringue and bachata style music.

Joann McKay, director of the Des Moines Latino Heritage Festival, and Hector Avalos, associate professor of religious studies, will also address the crowd.

Attendees are asked to donate a canned food item that the Latino Heritage Committee will give to Mid-Iowa Community Action in Des Moines.
