Iowa State summer commencement ceremony on Aug. 9 will honor 772 graduates

AMES, Iowa -- David Miles, president of the Board of Regents, will address 772 graduates at Iowa State University's summer commencement ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, in Hilton Coliseum. The ceremony will combine graduate and undergraduate commencements.

A total of 478 students will receive bachelor's degrees; 187 will receive master's degrees; and 107 will receive doctoral degrees. All participating students will walk across the stage as their names are read.

Miles, who has been Regents' president since December, is managing director of The Miles Group, a family investment business. Previously, he served as executive officer of Countryside Renewable Energy Inc., a Des Moines company that consolidated independent ethanol plants into one organization. He also had executive posts with several investment firms, including Principal Mutual Funds, AMCORE Financial and Investors Management Group.

Miles earned a bachelor's degree in public administration from Drake University, and a master's degree in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and doctoral degree in law, both from Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass.

Tickets are not required for the university ceremony. There are no separate college convocations in the summer.
