Iowa State anthropologist Pruetz featured in National Geographic documentary

AMES, Iowa -- Jill Pruetz, an Iowa State University associate professor of anthropology, has observed and documented chimpanzees in Senegal carrying out human-like behaviors that have surprised primate experts. Pruetz and her research from the Fongoli site are now being featured in a new documentary, "Chimps: Next of Kin," on the National Geographic Channel this month. The show airs again on Friday, April 9, at 5 p.m. CDT.

Named a National Geographic Emerging Explorer for 2008, Pruetz is continuing her research on the savanna chimpanzees in Fongoli this semester and summer. Among her projects, she is spending two nights a week with the chimps to observe their nocturnal behaviors.
