ENVIRONMENT, FEMINISM AND FOOD SLATED FOR DISCUSSION AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY CONFERENCE APRIL 9-10



AMES, Iowa -- A two-day conference, "Environment: Personal as Political -- Women, Food and Environmental Ethics," willbe held Friday and Saturday, April 9-10, in the Memorial Union at Iowa State University. All Friday events will be heldin the Great Hall; all Saturday events are scheduled for the Pioneer Room.

Victoria Davion, professor of philosophy at the University of Georgia, will present the conference's plenary address at10:30 a.m. on Saturday on "Women and the Environment: Ecological Feminist Perspectives." Davion is editor of thejournal,Ethics and the Environment.Her areas of specialization include environmental ethics and feministphilosophy.

Additional sessions will feature discussions on a number of issues by Iowa State faculty members and other areaexperts. Some of the sessions include "Women's Work is Never Done: International Perspectives on Local Food Productionand Consumption," "Heritage Foods and Seeds in a Changing World," "Talking the Talk: Ecofeminism and BioregionalPerspectives," "Who Eats Local Food?" roundtable, "Ask Us How We Grow Your Food," "Food in the City" and "MidwesternCuisine: Home-Grown Recipes for Prairie."
