ISU HOSTS OPEN HOUSE FOR IOWA'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONALS, JULY 8

Iowa State University is hosting an open house for economic development professionals to explore how they can partner with the university to strengthen Iowa's economy.

The Economic Development Open House will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, on the Iowa State campus.

News reporters are invited to attend.

More than 100 participants from throughout the state have registered.

Presentations and tours will provide information on university programs and services that can benefit city, county and state economic development activities. Sessions include:

ISU Research Park, Incubator, Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development Center--ISU experts will discuss starting and growing technology-based companies.
Institute for Physical Research and Technology and Center for Advanced Technology Development--The presentation will cover how Iowa companies can benefit from research cost-sharing, SBIR grant assistance and other industry programs.
Center for Industrial Research and Service and Iowa Manufacturing Extension Partnership--CIRAS staff will talk about the assistance provided to Iowa's advanced manufacturing industry, research in the College of Engineering and efforts related to "BioEconomy."
Industry Relations--In this introductory session, ISU staff will discuss how cities and counties can keep connected with ISU and its economic development resources.
Tour: Biotechnology Facilities--a tour of several instrumentation facilities available on a fee-for service basis for industry.

The open house is sponsored by Iowa State's Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Office of Biotechnology.

Lisa Lorenzen, director of industry relations and biotechnology liaison, is coordinating the event. She will be available for interviews from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 8.
