LEWIS TO STEP DOWN AS DIRECTOR OF IOWA STATE'S ACADEMIC INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES OFFICE
AMES, Iowa -- Dorothy Lewis, director of the Office of Academic Information Technologies (AIT), is leaving the position, effective June 30. The announcement was made today by Benjamin Allen, vice president for academic affairs and provost.
Allen praised Lewis for her leadership and innovation as director of AIT, formerly known as the Computation Center.
"Dorothy has played a key role in developing an effective partnership among AIT, Administrative Data Processing (ADP) and our Telecommunications Office," Allen said. "This partnership is absolutely essential for Iowa State to provide the level of information and communications technology required by our students, faculty and staff."
Allen said Lewis decided five months ago she wanted to step down from the position, but Allen requested she continue as director until the end of the fiscal year. Lewis was named director in May 2002 after serving as interim director (2000--2002) and associate director (1993-2000).
"I've been with Iowa State for 23 years, and will greatly miss working with the AIT staff and so many other people, but I have other interests and want to take time to pursue them," Lewis said. "I am extremely proud of the progress we have made in expanding and upgrading our high-performance computing resources, developing our geographic information systems facilities, supporting online learning, and assisting faculty and students in taking advantage of the information technology services here."
Allen said he expects to name an interim director within one week. In addition, a search is under way for a Chief Information Officer, a position Lewis says is critical to the ongoing development of information technologies at Iowa State.
