TWO IOWA STATE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENTS CHANGE NAMES
AMES, Iowa -- New names have been approved by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, for two Iowa State University engineering departments.
The department of aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics will now be known as aerospace engineering. The former department of civil and construction engineering now will be civil, construction and environmental engineering.
The new names better reflect evolving departmental emphases and priorities, said Engineering Dean James Melsa.
Iowa State's College of Engineering is the nation's seventh largest by undergraduate enrollment. Nearly 5,000 students are enrolled in undergraduate programs. In addition, there are nearly 900 graduate students.
