MEEKS STEPS DOWN AS DEAN OF ISU FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES COLLEGE; WILL HEAD CENTER FOR FAMILY POLICY
AMES, Iowa --- Carol B. Meeks, who has been dean of the Iowa State University College of Family and Consumer Sciences since August 1997, is leaving that position to serve as director of the Center for Family Policy, also at Iowa State. Her resignation as dean is effective June 30.
"Dean Meeks' dedication to the growth and development of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences over the past six years is greatly appreciated," said Ben Allen, vice president for academic affairs and provost. "In particular, she has initiated and provided support for additional research, added educational programs and taken steps to move the college forward in technology."
Meeks said she is especially proud of the progress the college has made in attracting research funding and the college's sponsorship in 2000-2001 of the year-long theme, "Strengthening Families to Become the Best."
"Serving as dean has been both challenging and rewarding. I am looking forward to focusing my efforts on the Center for Family Policy, " Meeks said.
Meeks will begin her new position after a brief leave of absence. Allen said he will appoint an interim dean and a search for a permanent dean will begin in the fall.
"We are grateful for the service and leadership that Dean Meeks has provided as dean, and we are fortunate she will continue serving Iowa State in a new role," said Iowa State President Gregory Geoffroy.
The Center for Family Policy evaluates public policies in Iowa to determine how they affect the quality of life for individuals and families. The center is part of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Meeks was a professor and department chair at the University of Georgia, Athens, before joining Iowa State. She received her B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
