PRESIDENT OF HY-VEE NAMED FALL EXECUTIVE IN RESIDENCE BY ISU'S COLLEGE OF BUSINESS; TO SPEAK NOVEMBER 18
AMES, Iowa -- Richard (Ric) Jurgens, president and chief administrative officer of Hy-Vee, Inc., Des Moines, is the College of Business' Fall Executive in Residence.
As Executive in Residence, Jurgens will speak on "The Science of Retailing -- How technology is changing the retail enterprise and the challenges and opportunities facing today's merchants" at 1:10 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18, in room 1 of Carver Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Jurgens will also teach an organizational management class for undergraduate business students while at Iowa State.
Jurgens is an Iowa native and an Iowa State alumnus with an industrial administration degree. Upon graduation from ISU, Jurgens joined Hy-Vee. Hy-Vee is an employee-owned corporation with more than 200 retail stores and 46,000 employees in seven Midwestern states. Hy-Vee's annual sales exceed $3.8 billion and it is ranked among the top 15 supermarket chains in the nation.
Jurgens has worked as a store, district, and regional manager; senior vice president; and executive vice president before being named president in 2001. He also serves on Hy-Vee's board of directors.
The Executive in Residence program for the College of Business was created in 1995. The program furthers the college's mission of linking theory with practice. It enhances the educational programs of the college by enriching the learning environment of students, fostering research ideas for faculty and graduate students, and providing insight to new business ideas and perspectives. Executives in the program teach undergraduate classes, conduct graduate seminars and interact with faculty and staff.
