ROTHSCHILD WILL KICK OFF ISU PRESIDENTIAL LECTURE SERIES

AMES, Iowa -- A nationally recognized genetic scientist and ISU faculty member has been selected to deliver the first Presidential University Lecture at Iowa State.

Max Rothschild, co-director of the Center for Integrated Animal Genomics and Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture in animal science, will present "From A Sow's Ear to a Silk Purse: The Promise of Genomics" at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, in the Memorial Union Sun Room. A reception and student poster display will be held at 7 p.m. in the South Ballroom. The events are free and open to the public.

Rothschild will look at ways human and animal health have advanced, and how human food has improved due to research in animal genetics.

The Presidential University Lecture Series has been created to highlight faculty excellence in learning, discovery and engagement. Members of the ISU faculty will present lectures from their areas of expertise on topics of interest to the general public.

Rothschild was selected for this honor by Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffroy, following a nominating process. A $1,000 award accompanies the distinction, which will be awarded each semester to a faculty member.

Rothschild's extensive career in pig genomics mapping has netted him numerous awards, including fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, two R&D 100 Awards and Iowa Inventor of the Year (2002).
