SIOUX CITY WOMAN RECOGNIZED AS IOWA SBDC WOMAN ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR

AMES, Iowa -- Deanna Cloud, president of Marvel Media, Inc., Sioux City, has been named the Deb Dalziel Woman Entrepreneur of the Year by the Iowa Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), an outreach arm of Iowa State University's College of Business.

She will be recognized at a ceremony from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Tony Roma's on Singing Hills Boulevard, Sioux City.

Cloud is president of Marvel Media, Inc., an advertising agency that specializes in small business advertising and marketing. It opened in March 1998 with three clients and has since grown to represent more than 20. Cloud's previous professional experience included radio advertising sales and media buying for a Denver, Colo., advertising agency.

Cloud is active in several community and professional organizations, including the American Advertising Federation, for which she's been a board member since 1997, S.T.A.M.P.--the Society To Advance Media Professionalism, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Buy Locally Task Force for the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce. She was named to the National Register's Who's Who in Executives and Professionals for 2002 and America's Registry of Outstanding Professionals in 2003. She was also profiled for the communications and media careers section for Vocational Biographies.

A strong advocate for entrepreneurial development, Cloud has generously donated time to the SBDC to assist other small businesses and to teach advertising and marketing workshops for the Western Iowa Tech SBDC, Sioux City. She has also been a guest speaker for SBDC FastTrac courses, the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Women's Association and Morningside College's marketing and advertising classes.

"I am fortunate to have the skills, abilities and experience to provide valuable services to the small-business community," said Cloud. "When we share our entrepreneurial talents, we create a better business environment for everyone."

The Deb Dalziel Woman Entrepreneur Achievement Award honors an Iowa woman entrepreneur who has significantly changed or improved her own life and the lives of those around her. The award is named in memory of Deb Dalziel, who was director of the Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Iowa Community College, Burlington, from 1987 until her death from cancer in 1999 at the age of 44.

Jackie Nohr, director of the Western Iowa Tech Community College SBDC, nominated Cloud for this award.
