JOHNS HOPKINS RESEARCHER TO PRESENT 2003-04 DORAISWAMY LECTURE IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
AMES, Iowa--Frederick J. Krambeck, a research professor affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, will present the fifth annual L. K. Doraiswamy Lecture in Chemical Engineering on Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. in 171 Durham, Iowa State University. Krambeck will present a similar lecture Feb. 18, 2004 at the National Chemical Laboratory in Pune, India.
Krambeck received a bachelor of chemical engineering degree from City College of New York and a doctorate in chemical engineering from City University of New York in the 1960s, then pursued a long research career with Mobil Oil Co. At Mobil, Krambeck co-discovered thermal nitric oxide decomposition technology and interpreted the mathematical structure of chemical kinetics. Later, as a senior consultant to Mobil, he helped to develop R&D strategies for carbon dioxide stabilization, as well as implemented large-scale optimization technologies, work that led to his appointment to the National Academy of Engineering.
A director of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Krambeck's lecture at Iowa State will focus on glycosylation reaction kinetics, used to help determine the functionality of certain aspects of cell structure affecting the excretion of proteins synthesized in pharmaceutical applications.
The Doraiswamy lecture series is named in honor of L. K. Doraiswamy, Anson Marston Distinguished Professor Emeritus in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Iowa State University, and a former director of India's National Chemical Laboratory. The lecture series brings internationally recognized scientists and engineers to present lectures at both Iowa State and the National Chemical Laboratory. The lecture is free and open to the public.
