Federal Reserve Bank official to speak

A nationally recognized expert on rural economic analysis and policy studies and ISU alumnus is the speaker for the Robert Stafford Lecture Series on Banking. He will discuss the global economic race Nov. 10.

Kawaler elected fellow of science association

The American Association for the Advancement of Science recognized Iowa State's Steve Kawaler for his study of stars, his work directing the Whole Earth Telescope and his classroom teaching.

Going to the Center Saturday? Start early.

Ball games, a concert, an ISU Theatre production and two large conferences will make for a busy parking lot at the Iowa State Center Saturday, Nov. 5. Drivers are advised to carpool, arrive early or both. Activities include Cyclone football (1 p.m., Jack Trice Stadium), volleyball (4 p.m., Hilton), ISU Theatre production (7:30, Fisher Theater), O.A.R. concert (8 p.m., Stephens Auditorium), men's basketball, (8 p.m., Hilton Coliseum).

Community visioning program honored

The Iowa's Living Roadways Community Visioning Program has been named the 2005 Outstanding Program by the Iowa Chapter of the American Planning Association. The program was developed by Julia Badenhope, associate professor of landscape architecture

State dollars will help Iowa State University commercialize campus research

Iowa State University will use state economic development dollars to support short-term projects at six companies, award grants to university projects with high potential for commercialization and support Iowa State offices that provide technology transfer services.

Extension vice provost finalist withdraws

Linda Jo Turner has withdrawn her name from consideration for the position of vice provost for extension at Iowa State. Turner, one of three recently named finalists for the position, said she will remain at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she has accepted an appointment as interim vice provost for extension. The other two finalists for the Iowa State position will visit campus and participate in open forums this month.

Leopold Center director will take on new role

Fred Kirschenmann, director of the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture at Iowa State, has accepted a new leadership role as a distinguished fellow of the center. Jerry DeWitt, coordinator of ISU Extension's sustainable agriculture program and its Pest Management and Environment Program, has been named interim director of the Leopold Center, effective Nov. 1.
