ISU honors Families of the Year

The Albright family of Lytton and te McNutt family of Iowa City have been chosen Iowa State University Families of the Year.

Another award for Stephens Auditorium

ISU's Stephens Auditorium has received an inaugural 25-year award from the Iowa chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The new award recognizes an Iowa building (25 to 40 years old) that has outstanding and timeless architectural design. Last year, AIA named Stephen's Auditorium "Building of the Century." AIA also recognized the Steve and Debbie Bergstrom Training Facility with a merit award.

Union ramp closed to public through the weekend

The Memorial Union parking ramp, which is undergoing repairs, will be closed to the public through the weekend. It's scheduled to reopen Monday, Oct. 10. Ramp construction updates and alternate parking options are on the Union web site at www.mu.iastate.edu.

Controlling a spacecraft all the way to Jupiter

Atul Kelkar, an Iowa State University professor of mechanical engineering, is helping to develop the technology that would control a proposed mission to three of Jupiter's moons.

Study: Farming remains growth industry in Iowa

A recent Iowa State study, funded by the Coalition to Support Iowa's Farmers, shows that 25 percent of all Iowa industrial output leaves the state in the form of agri-food products.

Rusesabagina, the real-life hero of the movie "Hotel Rwanda," will speak on campus Oct. 26.

Bowen named executive director of Iowa Lakeside Lab

Bonnie Bowen, a member of the ISU faculty since 1995, has been named executive director at Iowa Lakeside Laboratory, Milford. Iowa Lakeside Laboratory, an educational facility on 140 acres on West Lake Okoboji, is operated cooperatively by the three Regents universities -- Iowa State, the University of Iowa, and the University of Northern Iowa.

'Murderball'star to campus Oct. 18

Mark Zupan, one of the stars of "Murderball" will speak on campus Oct. 18. The movie "Murderball" is about members of the U.S. Paralympic rugby team that won a bronze medal in the 2004 Paralympic games in Athens, Greece.

Breakfast fundraiser to benefit Albright memorial fund

From 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 8, Alpha Gamma Rho members will serve waffles, flavored syrups, sausage and beverages at their fraternity house, 201 Gray Ave. The cost is $5 per person or $4 in advance. All money raised will go to a memorial fund for Andrew "Ardie" Albright, an ISU sophomore and fraternity member who was killed in a Sept. 13 car accident.
